Welcome to Sea View Holiday Flats, Cheung Chau, Hong Kong

If you’re looking for a place to stay in Hong Kong, but you want to avoid the cacophony and high prices of the city, Sea View Holiday Flats could have just the place for you. We’re on Cheung Chau, a South China Sea island that has no cars or high-rises, yet lies just half an hour (by fast ferry) from Central on Hong Kong Island.

We have a variety of flats on offer, on weekdays costing between HK$120 and HK$350 (ca. US$15 and US$45) per night, and sleeping between two and eight people. While not every flat has a sea view, all have air-conditioning, a television (invariably with a video player), simple cooking facilities, and en suite bathrooms. Several of the flats are beside Cheung Chau’s main beach; from them, you can gaze at Hong Kong Island twelve kilometres to the west, while hearing little but waves rolling on the sand.

Look at a map of Hong Kong, and you may barely notice Cheung Chau (it lies off the southeastern tip of Lantau Island, twelve kilometres west of Hong Kong Island). But for all that it’s just two kilometres long, and never more than two kilometres wide, Cheung Chau is a fascinating place, well worth exploring while you are here. The central part is packed with three-storey houses along streets which are often no wider than footpaths. Headlands to north and south cradle a harbour on the west coast, which is home to Hong Kong’s largest fishing fleet. To the east are two beaches — and most of our flats. Beyond the fringes of the main residential area are rolling granite hills, coves, rocks sculpted by erosion, and trails that wind along the coast and through woods before tumbling back into "town".

Add to this stores including supermarkets, a host of seafood restaurants and cafes — often with al fresco dining — and a smattering of pubs and karaoke bars, and we think you will find Cheung Chau a great place to stay in Hong Kong: a place to chill out, and live the island life, between your forays into the pulsing city.
